Learner Ameerah Adisa is engineering her way to software success after achieving a distinction in her IoT course at Blackpool and the Fylde College.
The T Level student has completed her Digital Production, Development and Design course and is now on track for a career as a software engineer.
When Ameerah first started to think about what she would like to do after her GCSEs, she admits that T Levels weren’t even on her radar.
“I didn’t know anything about T levels at first, but once I started to look into them, I realised that they offered opportunities that A levels and BTEC diplomas didn’t. The extended work placement was the element that really appealed to me.”
Ameerah did a placement at DWP Digital, which proved to be really successful.
“I learnt so much from the industry professionals there, especially how to apply the knowledge I had gained in the classroom to real-world situations,” she said. “The experience definitely helped me in my final exams too.”
She found her tutors at the college were also very supportive with people always on hand if she was ever struggling to understand any aspect of her course. And she rated the student facilities with the onsite vending machines being singled out for particular praise!
Planning to become a software engineer in the future, Ameerah is now waiting for confirmation of her degree apprenticeship at DWP Digital – an opportunity which came about as a direct result of her T level placement and one which she couldn’t have imagined two years ago.
