L&C IoT Supporting Construction Sector Boom

Construction Management

The housebuilding sector has a monumental challenge ahead following the government’s manifesto to “get Britain building again” and deliver 1.5 million homes in the next five years.

The number of new homes built across Lancashire and Cumbria will increase exponentially, as a further overhaul of the planning system has provided the building bricks needed to boost housebuilding across the country.

How can we meet the housebuilding targets?

To meet such an ambitious target, the construction sector has highlighted the urgent need for a skilled workforce to meet the demand.

The Lancashire and Cumbria Institute of Technology (L&C IoT) is answering that call by working directly with housebuilders and construction companies to deliver a skilled workforce that is equipped with the skills needed by the construction industry.

How can you help bridge the skills gap in construction?

Designed to inspire and challenge preconceptions of the construction industry, courses provided by our academic partners highlight exciting opportunities in engineering, digital, automation, and design.

The courses offered by the L&C IoT successfully bridge the gap between traditional construction and the digital skills needed, utilising hands-on experience and classroom learning. Students have the opportunity to learn real-world digital tools, such as industry-standard Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, while developing tech skills that mirror those found in today’s construction workplace.

Employers receive job-ready graduates, and students benefit from strong career paths. IoT partners Blackburn College and Preston College provide cutting-edge courses such as HNC Construction Management and HNC Civil Engineering.

By collaborating with the L&C IoT, employers in construction and housebuilding can help shape course content to match the changing needs of their industry.
