Lancashire & Cumbria IoT has an ambitious vision to deliver world-class higher technical education to increase the supply of highly skilled employees across key industries.
As part of a broader government strategy underpinned by a vision of greater social mobility and improved opportunity for all, we are planning to achieve the following for each of our stakeholder groups:
For learners - L&CIoT will:
Provide industry standard facilities and a curriculum which reflects current and future needs across the various technology sectors
Inspire and raise the aspirations of learners from school leavers to adults returning to education
Develop the non-academic skills and behaviours learners require to function effectively in the modern workplace
Increase social mobility by targeting under-represented groups, developing previously unrecognised talent and improving gender balance
Break down geographical barriers to learning by mixing styles of provision delivery
Create career pathways for learners allowing them to secure meaningful employment with excellent progression opportunities
For employers -
L&CIoT will:
Address employers' current skill gaps and anticipate their future skills needs, drawing on industry insights and research
Facilitate the development and retention of local talent, reducing recruitment costs and improving business stability
Provide industry standard, accessible training facilities to make the logistics of training effectively easier
Implement new training provision quickly in response to the sometimes rapidly changing needs of employers
Create opportunities for existing staff to retrain and upskill, whilst encourage new entrants to the digital, engineering and manufacturing sectors
Provide strategic direction for STEM provision and initiatives across the Northwest making them easier to find and use
